Meet Kurt

Montana Roots
Kurt Alme is a Montana native with deep, personal roots in our state.

Kurt was born in Great Falls where his parents were educators. His dad taught high school math, and his mom was an elementary school teacher. Kurt and his family moved around Montana as they followed his dad’s career to Dillon, Victor and Helena, and then to Miles City where his dad was the Director of Education at Pine Hills. Kurt graduated from Custer County District High School.

His family is the cornerstone of his life. He lives in Billings with Sandra, his wife of 32 years, where they raised their two grown children.
Making Life More Affordable
Kurt has lived and worked across Montana, serving Montanans as a budget watchdog, a prosecutor, and a nonprofit leader.

As a former Department of Revenue Director and Budget Director, Kurt balanced budgets to limit inflation and cut taxes to put money back into the pockets of Montanans – to make life more affordable.

Kurt served as Director of the Department of Revenue under Governor Judy Martz where he spearheaded the largest income tax rate cut in state history – cutting the top rate by almost 40% and saving income taxpayers over half a billion dollars in just the first five years. Kurt also served as Montana’s Budget Director under Governor Gianforte where he helped cut wasteful spending, balance the budget, deliver one of Montana’s largest income tax cuts, and make Montana debt-free.
Making Communities Safer
Kurt previously served as Montana’s United States Attorney, after being nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, twice. He stood for law and order, was tough on violent crime, and cracked down on drug dealers.

As Montana’s top federal prosecutor, Kurt launched Project Safe Neighborhoods to target meth traffickers, armed robbers, and violent felons and led the formation of Montana’s Homeland Security Task Force to bring the fight directly to the cartels. Under his leadership, criminal prosecutions hit a 20-year high and made our communities safer.

Earlier in his career, Kurt served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Montana, prosecuting white-collar crime, including fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and government program fraud. He was later appointed First Assistant U.S. Attorney, helping lead the office and oversee federal prosecutions across our state.
Protecting Montana Values
Deeply rooted in his community, Kurt served as Vice President and General Counsel, and later President of Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation. In that role, he worked closely with the state’s ranching and farming communities to support the Ranch’s work with emotionally troubled youth.

Kurt also spent decades volunteering on the boards of critical charitable organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Yellowstone County Endowment Foundation, St. John’s Lutheran Ministries, and St. Vincent’s Healthcare. As a pro bono attorney for the Yellowstone Guardianship Council, he dedicated his legal expertise to protecting Montana’s most vulnerable citizens. Kurt’s extensive local engagement also includes active participation in the Billings Downtown Rotary and the Billings Area Chamber of Commerce.
Kurt earned his undergraduate degree in business from the University of Colorado, summa cum laude, where he was a Truman Scholar. He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, cum laude, before coming home to Montana with his faith and conservative principles intact. After law school, he clerked for Ronald Reagan appointed U.S. District Judge Charles Lovell in Helena and then went on to practice law at the Crowley Fleck law firm in Billings.
Stepping Up to Serve Montana
Kurt Alme is not a career politician and has never run for office before. He is stepping up to serve again because Montana is his home, and he wants our kids and grandkids to have an even better life than we have, with the same freedoms and values that we hold dear.

He is running for U.S. Senate to make life more affordable, make our communities safer, and protect our Montana way of life.

President Trump has given his “Complete and Total Endorsement” to Kurt Alme for the U.S. Senate.
